Contact our floral design team to create beautiful boutonnieres

Traditionally the boutonniere’s that the groomsmen wear on their left lapel is made up of a flower from the bride’s bouquet. This custom dates back to the knights who would wear a token from their ladylove as they went about doing their daring dos. They would complete the quest and slay the dragon or win the joust in her name. These days groomsmen wear the boutonniere symbolically – although some might say he needs to metaphorically slay his evil dragon of a mother-in-law.  But those are your issues and NetFlorist doesn’t really want to get involved in that dirty laundry.

When picking out a flower for your boutonniere from the bridal bouquet (or rather the flowers that will make up the bridal bouquet) you should always stick to small compact flowers. You know like a Calla lily that’s not too big especially if you or your groomsmen are a bit on the wimpy side, the flower will dwarf you and them and the result will be more comedic and less dashing knight in shining armour. You should also only choose a calla lily if your blushing bride has a calla lily in her bouquet else that could be a tad odd.

An Orchid blossom would make a wonderful boutonniere, with a small sprig of greenery to highlight the delicate colour on the petals. Of course if your bride has chosen a traditional bouquet filled with roses then roses you shall be wearing on your lapel.

The floral possibilities for your boutonniere are endless; just like answers there isn’t a wrong one – no really there isn’t and chances of the bride or the mother of the bride or even your mother letting you choose and make up your own boutonniere are very slim; not because they don’t trust you but simply because they don’t trust you.

But that’s not really any skin off your nose is it, not when you and your groomsmen can use your mad man skills for lifting heavy objects and the venue or hang things. You know what men do, while the wedding planner, your bride and the bridesmaid’s will make all the frilly decisions.
Which is where we come in, NetFlorist is South Africa’s largest online florist and our team of expert floral designers can create any boutonniere using any flower you or your bride has picked to accentuate your knightly deeds on yout special day.
